Can Speedy Cash report me to credit bureaus for non-payment?
The answer depends on whether Speedy Cash is a legitimate, registered lender in your country.
When They CAN Report You
If Speedy Cash is properly licensed and registered in your country, and if they have a data-sharing agreement with credit bureaus, then yes — they can report your payment history, including defaults.
In the United States → Legitimate lenders report to Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
In the United Kingdom → Registered lenders report to Experian, Equifax, and Callcredit.
In Canada → Registered lenders report to Equifax and TransUnion.
When They CANNOT Report You
If Speedy Cash is NOT licensed in your country, they cannot legally report you to credit bureaus because they are not authorized lenders. However, they may still THREATEN to do so as a scare tactic.
If the app is blacklisted (like "Speedy Choice" in Nigeria), they have no legal standing to report anything to anyone.
The Conditions for Credit Reporting
For a lender to report you to a credit bureau legally, all of the following must be true:
- The lender is properly licensed in your country
- The lender has a formal agreement with the credit bureau
- The debt is legitimate and verifiable
- You received proper notice of the debt
- The lender follows fair reporting practices
What This Means For You
- If you borrowed from a fake/blacklisted app → They cannot touch your credit report. Their threats are empty.
- If you borrowed from a legitimate lender → Defaulting will damage your credit score for up to 7 years.
- In either case → Do not ignore legitimate debt, but do not be intimidated by fake threats.
Check your credit report regularly to see if any unknown debts appear. If they do, dispute them immediately.
