Can EarnIn report me to credit bureaus for non-payment

Back

It depends on which EarnIn product you use.

For Cash Out (the core product): NO. EarnIn does not report Cash Out activity to credit bureaus . Using Cash Out will not help your credit score. Defaulting on Cash Out will not hurt your credit score (though EarnIn can still attempt to collect the debt through other means).

For the EarnIn Card: YES. Beginning September 16, 2024, EarnIn reports credit information related to EarnIn Card usage to Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian — the three major credit bureaus .

Detailed Explanation

Cash Out Product Details

EarnIn's official help center states: "Using EarnIn's Cash Out product does not affect credit score. This means you can transfer earnings to your linked bank account at any time, and it won't get reported to credit bureaus or impact your credit score" .

This means:

  • On-time Cash Out usage will NOT help you build credit
  • Late or missed Cash Out repayments will NOT appear on your credit report
  • Cash Out activity is completely invisible to credit bureaus

Important caveat: Even if EarnIn does not report to credit bureaus, they can still attempt to collect the debt through other means — including sending you to collections. If a collection agency reports the debt, that could appear on your credit report.

EarnIn Card Details

The EarnIn Card is a different product. It is issued by Evolve Bank & Trust, Member FDIC . For this card:

  • EarnIn reports credit information to Equifax, TransUnion, and Experia
  • On-time payments can have a positive impact on your credit
  • Late payments may negatively impact your credit

The help center notes: "On-time payment history can have a positive impact on your credit and late payment may negatively impact your credit" .

Credit Monitoring Feature

EarnIn also offers a Credit Monitoring feature. Enrolling in Credit Monitoring does not impact your credit score . This is a separate service that lets you check your credit reports, not a product that affects your credit.
