Can I request a repayment extension or restructuring for CheckMate?

Back

YES – And this is YOUR RIGHT, not a favor.

For Physical CheckMate Locations:

Many states REQUIRE payday lenders to offer a no-cost repayment plan if requested. Check your state laws:

How to Request Your Extension (Script for Phone Call):

"I am requesting a repayment extension under my rights as a borrower. I cannot make the full payment on the due date. Please provide me with the following:
  1. The number of additional days or months available for extension
  2. The interest rate and fees applicable during the extension period
  3. The revised total amount due
  4. The new payment due date(s)
Please send this information to me in writing before I agree to any modification."

Your Absolute Rights Regardless of Lender Cooperation:

  1. The Right to Revoke ACH Authorization – You can tell your bank to stop automatic withdrawals at any time. Do this in writing to your bank and the lender.
  2. The Right to Dispute the Debt – If you believe the lender violated lending laws (usurious interest, hidden fees, no license), you can dispute the validity of the entire debt.
  3. The Right to Cease Communication – You can demand the lender stop calling you entirely and communicate only by mail.
  4. The Right to Verification – You can demand the lender prove you owe the debt, including a signed contract and a calculation of all interest and fees.
  5. The Right to Legal Representation – You can have an attorney handle all communications on your behalf.

For Fake CheckMate Apps:

There is NO formal extension process because they are not legitimate lenders. However, you have a different set of rights:

  • Do not pay them anything – Paying confirms the debt and validates their scam
  • Block all communications – They have no legal recourse against you
  • Report the app to Google/Apple – And to the FTC and FBI's IC3
  • Freeze your credit – To prevent identity theft using your submitted information
