Can NetCredit contact my friends or family?
Only if YOU provide their contact information on your application—and only under specific conditions.
How NetCredit Gets Contact Information:
NetCredit, like most legitimate lenders, asks you to provide:
- Your personal contact information (phone, email, address)
- References —names and phone numbers of people you know
They CANNOT get your contacts from:
- Your phone (no app exists to scrape contacts—NetCredit has no mobile app)
- Your email
- Social media
- Your phone carrier
The FDCPA Protection:
Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), debt collectors (including lenders collecting their own debt) cannot :
- Reveal the specific amount of your debt to third parties
- Harass or threaten your references
- Call before 8 AM or after 9 PM
- Call repeatedly (multiple times daily)
What Your References Should Do If Contacted:
- Do not verify any of your information (address, employer, schedule)
- Say: "I do not know anyone by that name" or "I cannot help you with this"
- Hang up —they are not required to stay on the line
- Do not pay anything —references are never responsible for your debt
How to Prevent NetCredit From Contacting Your Friends/Family:
- Before applying: Ask NetCredit directly: "Under what circumstances will you contact my references? May I provide references who do not know about my finances?"
- During application: Only list people you trust and who are prepared for potential contact
- If you default: Request in writing that NetCredit only contact you directly: "I withdraw consent for third-party contact. Contacting my references would violate my privacy rights."
The Bottom Line: NetCredit cannot scrape your phone because they have no app. But the references you voluntarily provide can be contacted if you default. Choose your references carefully and warn them in advance .
