How do I report a loan app that leaked my data?
Report through multiple channels for maximum effectiveness:
- Google Play Store: App page → three dots → "Flag as inappropriate"
- National Data Protection Agency: (Varies by country: NPC Philippines, ICO UK, etc.)
- Financial Regulator: Central Bank or SEC (varies by country)
- Law Enforcement: Local cybercrime unit / police
- Consumer Protection Agency
What to include in your report:
- Screenshots of data collection prompts/permissions requested
- Evidence of data misuse (harassing messages, unauthorized transactions)
- App name, developer name, and Play Store link
- Timeline of when you installed and when you noticed issues
Example Disclosure Success: Research that identified non-compliant loan apps led to Google removing 93 flagged apps from the Play Store after disclosure . Your report can contribute to similar enforcement actions.
