What happens if I give Speedy Cash access to my contacts?
Let me be very clear about this. When you grant a loan app access to your contacts, you are giving them a weapon they can use against you.
What They Can Do With Your Contacts
They can contact your family members → Loan apps have been known to call borrowers' parents, siblings, and even children to demand payment.
They can contact your employer → Some apps call workplaces to "verify employment" but use this as a pressure tactic, potentially jeopardizing your job.
They can publicly shame you → Some apps send bulk messages to your contact list claiming you are a "debtor" or "fraudster."
They can claim false references → Even if you never listed someone as a reference, they may claim you did and harass that person.
They can sell your contact list → Your contacts may start receiving spam or scam calls because you gave one app access.
The Worst Case Scenario
Multiple reports describe borrowers whose loan apps contacted their entire contact list with abusive messages, threatening messages, or false claims about criminal activity.
This is illegal in many jurisdictions, but that does not stop rogue apps from doing it.
How to Protect Yourself
- Never grant contact access to ANY loan app
- If you already have, revoke the permission immediately
- Warn your contacts that they might receive strange messages
- Report any harassment to authorities
