Can FigLoans contact my friends or family?

Back

Yes—but only the references YOU provide on your application.

How FigLoans Gets Contact Information:

When you apply for a loan, FigLoans asks you to provide:

  • Your personal contact information
  • References—names and phone numbers of people you know

They CANNOT get your contacts from:

  • Your phone (no app exists to scrape contacts)
  • Your email
  • Social media

What FigLoans Can Do With Your References:

  • Contact them to verify your identity
  • Contact them if you default on your loan
  • Store their information in their secure database

What FigLoans CANNOT Do (Legally):

  • Reveal the specific amount of your debt to your references
  • Harass or threaten your references
  • Call before 8 AM or after 9 PM
  • Call repeatedly (multiple times daily)

How to Prevent FigLoans From Contacting Your Friends/Family:

  • Option 1 (Before Applying): Ask FigLoans: "Under what circumstances will you contact my references? If I pay on time, will you ever call them?"
  • Option 2 (During Application): Provide references who you trust and who know your situation. Warn them in advance.
  • Option 3 (If You Default): Immediately contact FigLoans and request they only contact you directly. State: "I withdraw consent for third-party contact. Contacting my references would violate my privacy."
  • Option 4 (If They Call Anyway): Your references should say: "I do not know this person" and hang up. They are not required to help.

The FDCPA Protection:

Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), debt collectors cannot disclose your debt to third parties (including your references). If a collector reveals that you owe money, they have violated federal law. Document the call and consider legal action.

Bottom Line: FigLoans will not scrape your phone contacts because they have no app. But they will ask you for reference names. Choose your references carefully—and warn them.
