Can LoanMax contact my friends or family?

Back

Yes - if you list them as references on your application.

How It Works:

  1. You provide reference names and phone numbers on the loan application
  2. LoanMax stores these in their database
  3. If you default, debt collectors call these numbers

What Actually Happens in Practice:

Collectors often push legal boundaries. Your friends and family will figure out it is a debt collector calling. This causes embarrassment and strained relationships.

How to Avoid It:

  • Option 1 (Before signing): Ask LoanMax directly: "If I default, will you call my references?" If yes, reconsider the loan.
  • Option 2 (After default): Tell your references: "A company might call asking for me. Do not verify any information about me. Just say 'Wrong number' and hang up."
  • Option 3 (Legal leverage): If collectors reveal your debt to a third party, they have violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Document the call and consider legal action.
