Is CheckMate licensed to operate?

Back

Physical locations: YES, they appear to be licensed.

  • The Vancouver, WA location is listed under "Personal Finance Licensed Loan Companies" with Dun & Bradstreet .
  • The Mesa, AZ location has been operating since 2003 under "Miscellaneous Business Credit Institutions" .

Mobile App Version: NO LICENSE INFORMATION AVAILABLE.

Our search found zero evidence of a mobile loan application named "CheckMate" holding any state lending license. The legitimate CheckMate companies are either:

  • A shopping discount browser extension (not a lender)
  • Physical storefronts (not mobile apps)

Your Rights Regardless of License Status:

Even if a lender holds a license, you have the right to:

  1. Cancel the loan within a specified period (typically 3-7 days depending on state law) without penalty.
  2. Receive a free amortization schedule showing exactly how each payment is applied.
  3. Refuse automatic withdrawals – You can revoke ACH authorization at any time.
  4. Sue for damages if the lender violates lending laws, licensed or not.
  5. File complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and your state Attorney General.

Action Step: Before accepting any loan from a CheckMate location, ask to see their state lending license displayed prominently in the store. If using an app, demand the license number in writing before providing personal information.
