Is AdvanceMeToday registered with the Financial Conduct Authority?

Back

This question applies to the UK (FCA). AdvanceMeToday appears to operate in the United States, specifically targeting New York consumers. As such, FCA registration is not applicable.

But let's talk about what really matters: your rights as a borrower.

Instead of fixating on whether an app appears on Google Play or the App Store (many predatory apps do), focus on these borrower rights:

  • Right to Legal Interest Rates: In many US states, including New York, lenders cannot charge more than 16% APR on loans under $250,000 from non-bank lenders. AdvanceMeToday was cited for charging rates "many times the legal limit" .
  • Right to Void Illegal Loans: If a lender charges usurious (illegal) interest, the loan contract may be void and unenforceable. The New York DFS explicitly stated that "loans offered in New York by non-bank lenders, with an interest rate above the statutory maximums, including payday loans, are void and unenforceable" .
  • Right to Debt Collection Protections: Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), collectors cannot attempt to collect on debts that are void or unenforceable. Do not let illegal lenders intimidate you .
  • Right to Cease Communication: You can demand a lender stop contacting you.
